Son Heung Min : More Important To HSV

Posted by TR On 05:50

Back in the month of September, Hamburger SV were staring down the barrel having lost their third straight BuLi game to Frankfurt. Under-pressure management, under-pressure coach and hosting the defending champions in their next game, the near future didn’t look bright for the club celebrating its 125th anniversary. Fast forward a month and the grass looks a lot greener. Just one defeat in the league and wins over Dortmund and Hannover have precariously placed them 7th in the table and with a strong shout for European football next season.
The sleeping Dinosaur has finally woken up and a lot of this has been attributed to the signings of van der Vaart, Jiracek and Badelj in the last week of August but the best piece of business was done long back, when a 16 year old school drop out joined the academy. Son Heung Min has come a long way and so have Hamburger SV in the past few weeks. Can’t be a coincidence, can it?
The game against Dortmund is where it all started. With a tension filled atmosphere in the Imtech Arena, Hamburg raced away to an early lead with Son scoring a header with two minutes gone but the lack of self belief was visible as Dortmund came back stronger. Two Perisic and two Hamburg goals later, Hamburg had snapped Dortmund’s 31 match winning streak and Son and van der Vaart were in the thick of the action, with two goals and two assists respectively. The signing of the Dutchman was seen as a major coup but with Rudnevs and Berg not in the best of form, the attack looked toothless.
It was Son who stood up and shone in a high profile and tense home game and eased the increasing pressure on the management. And not for the first time. Even last season when Hamburg were struggling to keep their feet in the top tier Son popped up with crucial goals against Hannover and Nurnberg, helping Hamburg stay afloat and make it to the 50th edition of the Bundesliga. So what is it that makes Son such a key player in the side?
Firstly, Son glues the attack. He involves players, makes runs and eventually makes good use of Rafael van der Vaart’s passing and shots from distance. The problem with Hamburg usually lies in the fact that Rudnevs is fairly poor at holding the ball leading the line, and this is where Son becomes handy. He not only holds play when required but also makes brilliant runs. Drawing players out of position is perhaps the most unnoticed art in football, but the way it can open up spaces in the opponent defence can only be seen to be believed.
Add to that Son’s excellent heading ability and his brilliant leap and Hamburg have got a precious talent in their hands. As for now his finishing is far from what would be expected of a striker and remains one of his weakest suites. After having been out on the sidelines for most of the last season, the South Korean attacker has taken time to gel up with his teammates and his below par performances against Bremen and Nurnberg can be attributed to that. In a short span of time a better understanding has now blossomed between him and the rest of the players, and his involvement in the build up play is there for all to see.
In their 2-0 win at Augsburg on Friday, Rudnevs set Son up for the goal, and there were a number of brilliant link ups between van der Vaart, Rudnevs and Son himself. The fact that Son has the uncanny tendency to show up in the big games doesn’t go unnoticed either. Taking nothing away from VDV whose mere presence seems to have stirred up the dressing room and the team’s performances, Son looks like the most important piece of Thorsten Fink’s puzzle.
For all his interplay and movement, taking a punt from range adds to the lack of predictability he offers. The one thing Fink might look to educate the 20 year old about, is to stay wide against teams defending narrowly and thus crowding the central channels. Improvement in crossing and finishing will only make him more and more influential in the team.
Hamburg fans would be hoping the positive showings aren’t just another phase in what has been a painful and forgettable recent past. With only sporadic success throughout their 125 year history, the occasion couldn’t get bigger for Hamburg in this historic 50th edition of the Bundesliga, each of which has involved The Dinosaur. Though in those attempts, to achieve anything substantial they would need their best players to perform to their best, the most important of which happens to be a 20 year old South Korean. More of those left footed strikes please.

Fun with Numbers With Messi

Posted by TR On 03:11

Lionel Messi is now just five away from Gerd Muller's legendary mark of 85 goals and his 2012 haul is greater than the total amassed by a host of clubs.Where Lionel Messi is concerned, numbers speak louder than words. Every week the Argentina international seems to smash a new record and his two goals against Spartak Moscow on Wednesday bring him even closer to Gerd Muller's mark of 85 strikes in a calendar year.Messi's staggering statistics not only put most forward players to shame, but some club sides too.
A look at how Leo's 80 goals in 2012 stand up to other teams, strikers and rivals in the same calendar year.

80Messi's goals for Barcelona and Argentina in 2012. He is currently five behind record-holder Muller, who netted 85 for Bayern Munich and Germany in 1972. Leo has up to nine games left to surpass Muller's mark.

80 - Liverpool have scored 80 times so far in 2012. The Reds' big chance to overtake Messi (if he is still within sight) will come at Christmas - when Spain enjoys a winter break.

76 - AC Milan, last season's Serie A runners-up, Champions League quarter-finalists and Coppa Italia semi-finalists, have scored only 76 times so far in 2012.

76 - The goals scored in this summer's showpiece international tournament - Euro 2012. Messi, of course, did not take part, but will end the year with more strikes than those racked up by the 16 European nations in Poland and Ukraine.

75 - The highest-scoring South American in a calendar year had previously been Pele, with 75 strikes in 1958. Messi is still waiting for the DVD ...

68 - The majority of Leo's goals have come with Barca in 2012, but 12 were scored for Argentina - his most productive year by far for the Albiceleste. Messi, however, was unable to break Gabriel Batistuta's 1998 record as Argentina drew 0-0 with Saudi Arabia last week. One for next year perhaps.

67 - The number of goals Miroslav Klose, the other person who is about to break a Gerd Muller record (his 68 for Germany) has scored in 11 years and eight months of international football. Messi has 31 already for Argentina, at the age of just 25.

66 - Arjen Robben, a player once (peculiarly) compared to Messi by sections of the Spanish media, has scored 66 goals for club and country since moving to Bayern Munich in 2009 - 14 fewer than Leo has netted this year.

62 - In the time it has taken Messi to net 80 goals, Malaga have scored just 62 times - despite finishing fourth in La Liga last season and qualifying for this term's Champions League second round already.

59 - Cristiano Ronaldo's goals for club and country in 2012. He is some way short of his fiercest rival.

54 - So too is Neymar.
51 - Juan Roman Riquelme, former international team-mate and one-time rival to Messi for a place in the Albiceleste attack, needed four-and-a-half years in Spain to rack up 51 goals - a total Messi has surpassed in each of the last two seasons and is set to supersede again this term.

42 - Messi's former team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Atletico Madrid's Radamel Falcao, considered by many to be the best striker in the world, have both netted 42 times for club and country this year.

32 - While Leo has smashed 68 goals for Barca in 2012, the club's other forwards have managed just 32 goals between them in the same time frame. Alexis Sanchez has 10, Pedro nine, Cristian Tello seven and David Villa six. Meanwhile, Cesc Fabregas, who has been utilised in forward positions on occasions, has scored nine in the current calendar year.

13 - Messi ended as Pichichi in La Liga last season, with 50 goals, outscoring every team outside the top six apart from Rayo Vallecano (53). Osasuna, Mallorca, Sevilla, Athletic Bilbao, Getafe, Real Sociedad, Betis, Espanyol, Zaragoza, Granada, Villarreal, Sporting Gijon and Racing Santander all managed fewer goals than the Argentine.

12 - Juventus' two top scorers in 2012, Mirko Vucinic and Fabio Quagliarella, have netted just 12 apiece in all competitions since the beginning of January.

2 - Alexandre Pato's club goals in 2012. He has none in Serie A during that time.

1 - Messi has admitted he tried to base his game on that of fellow Argentine Pablo Aimar, but the former Valencia man is hardly prolific these days and has scored just one goal for Benfica in 2012.

Man United Ready to Fork Out £20m to Sign Young England International

Posted by TR On 08:39

Italian source CalcioMercato claim that Man United are ready to spend as much as €25m (£20m) to sign England international Wilfried Zaha.
Hot Pursuit - WILFRIED ZAHA
The Crystal Palace man has been in fine form over the past 18 months and earned a surprise call-up to the senior national team set-up as a result. New Eagles boss Ian Holloway faces a fight to keep the young attacker and the South London side will want a big sum if they are to sell their prized asset and £20m may well be enough to secure the 20 year old.
Man United have adopted a youthful transfer policy over the past few years and Sir Alex Ferguson must clearly feel Zaha has what it takes to make it in the top tier.
Zaha has already racked up over 100 appearances for Crystal Palace and may well achieve a move to the Premier League with his Championship table topping side but a move to Man United will certainly tempt the Ivory Coast born attacker.
In recent seasons Ferguson has opted to bring in young talents from across Europe, and beyond, in preference to spending huge sums on established stars, Robin Van Persie’s move from Arsenal being an exception.
Javier Hernandez, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and David de Gea made swift impacts in the first team and Ferguson will hope for similar successes in the form of Nick Powell and Angelo Henriquez, who both signed for Man United in the summer.

Newcastle United up for Loic Remy or Moussa Sissoko or Mathieu Debuchy??

Posted by TR On 08:36

And in CalcioMercato yesterday, there was a report that Newcastle were lining up three players in the French League to bring to Tyneside in January.
And those players identified were Mathieu Debuchy of Lille, Moussa Sissoko of Toulouse, and Marseilles striker Loic Remy, who Newcastle were first linked with back in 2008.
Newcastle tried to bring Mathieu Debuchy in over the summer, but wouldn’t pay the fee Lille were asking at the time, but it could be that the French club have softened their stance on a player who has played for the Lille first team since 2004, and would cost around £6M.
Loic Remy is a talented player, but he would cost quite a bit to bring in from Marseilles, where he has a contract there until 2015 and cost around €15M when he was transferred from Nice to Marseilles a couple of years ago.
And we don’t think Newcastle would pay nowhere near that amount, even for a 25 year-old, so we don’t really see how Newcastle can get this player on Tyneside, he looks to be too expensive.
Moussa Sissoko is a different case, and his contract runs out in the summer, and maybe a £2M bid in January would allow Toulouse to get something for their central midfielder, and not lose him for nothing in the summer. But there are also other big clubs interested in acquiring the French International.
Of these three we think it’s plausible that Newcastle could bring in both Debuchy and Sissoko, but we also need reinforcements at striker and at center-back, and we would hope some deal can be done to strengthen those positions too, but that may be difficult to get so many players in during the January transfer window..

Everton hope for Barkley loan boost

Posted by TR On 08:33

Everton manager David Moyes hopes Ross Barkley can follow Leon Osman's example and prove himself at the top level after spending time on loan at a Football League club.

Barkley, 18, has returned to Goodison Park after a little over two months in the Championship with Sheffield Wednesday.
The midfielder was sent on loan in order to get regular first-team football, as fellow midfielder Osman was early in his career.
Barkley made nine appearances for Everton last season and has made one - against Leyton Orient in the Capital One Cup - so far this term.
But with captain Phil Neville set to be out for around two months after having a knee operation, he is likely to get opportunities to impress in midfield.
"We were happy for Ross to go out there and play the games on loan," Moyes told theLiverpool Echo. "I think it's been good for him.
"He's been playing in big games. We've had him watched in all the games, and I've watched him personally play in two games, against Leeds United and Blackburn.
"For the first three or four games it took him a little bit of time to settle, but he has then made a bigger impression.
"Ross has done great. He is a young boy, 18, and those games in the Championship will bode well for us and for him."
Osman played in League Two as he gained experience with Carlisle in autumn 2002, and then had a spell in the Championship with Derby in 2004.
The 31-year-old has long since become a regular at Goodison Park and made his England debut against Sweden in Stockholm last week.

Liverpool chasing Vitesse striker Wilfried Bony for January Transfer

Posted by TR On 08:31

Liverpool look set to make one of their first offers of the January window to Dutch Eredivisie club Vitesse for the services of 23-year-old striker Wilfried Bony. According to the Daily Express on Nov. 19, 2012 the English Premier League club is lining up an offer in the range of £8 million for the player.
Bony has had a breakout season so far in the Holland top flight having scored 12 goals so far this campaign to lead the Eredivisie scoring charts. The new mantra of the Reds is to buy young and allow the players to have the time to grown into manager Brendan Rodgers’ systems of total football.
Having seen the fast adaptation of former Heerenveen star Oussama Assaidi to Liverpool’s system since he arrived in January from the Eredivisie, it is expected that another young addition from one of Europe’s best developmental leagues could be a solid investment.
It must not be forgotten that the Reds’ star striker in Luis Suarez also got his European star in the Eredivisie with Groningen and then Ajax before he was purchased by Liverpool two years ago come this January.

David Beckham to play his last game

Posted by TR On 20:03

David Beckham is to quit Los Angeles Galaxy at the end of the season - just months after signing a contract for a further year with the Major League Soccer side
The 37-year-old former England captain has spent the past six years with the Galaxy, but will bow out following their championship game against Houston Dynamos on December 1. But he paved the way for a return to the MLS in the future - as a club owner.
"I've had an incredibly special time playing for the L.A. Galaxy, however, I wanted to experience one last challenge before the end of my playing career," Beckham said on the team's website. "I don't see this as the end of my relationship with the league as my ambition is to be part of the ownership structure in the future.
"In my time here I have seen the popularity of the game grow every year. I've been fortunate to win trophies, but more important to me has been the fantastic reception I've had from fans in L.A. and across the States. Soccer's potential has no limits in this wonderful country and I want to always be part of growing it."
Beckham, 37, scored seven goals and set up five others in 28 games with the Galaxy this season.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder is not likely to be short of offers once his time in the MLS comes to an end. He denied links with Australia's A-League at the weekend after Football Federation of Australia said preliminary talks had taken place.
Beckham was an MLS Best XI selection in 2011 and a three-time MLS All-Star. In 98 regular-season matches with the Galaxy, he tallied 18 goals and 40 assists, which is good for fourth-most in team history.
He also started 16 playoff matches for LA since the 2009 season and recorded eight assists while helping the club capture the 2011 MLS Cup title at Home Depot Center with a 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo. The London native set an MLS record by becoming the first player to register an assist in five consecutive postseason games, Beckham is a veteran of three World Cups for England and is the most capped field player in England history with 115 international appearances.
He has scored 17 international goals and worn the captain's armband on more than 50 occasions for his country. The set-piece specialist began his illustrious playing career with Manchester United, where he appeared in 265 matches and scored 62 goals while helping the Red Devils win six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and a UEFA Champions League title. Beckham will face his final on-pitch challenge when the Galaxy host the Dynamo looking for their second consecutive -- and fourth overall -- MLS Cup title.

Nicklas Bendtner opens the door to Spurs

Posted by TR On 08:05

Arsenal’s Nicklas Bendtner has opened the door to a controversial switch across north London to Tottenham if his stay at Juventus doesn’t work out.

The Dane is currently on loan in Turin but has struggled to win a regular place in Antonio Conte’s starting line-up.
Now Bendtner, who spent last season at Sunderland, insists he wouldn’t rule out a move to Spurs out of any blind loyalty to his current employers.
'History is filled with examples of players moving between rival clubs and I can't rule out clubs due to where I might have been in the past,' Bendtner said.
'It might not be the best idea but if the project matches my ambitions I would have to be interested.'
He added on bold.dk: 'I still have a great relationship with London, which is a city that I adore.

'I have a lot of friends in London and there are a lot of great clubs in London, so I wouldn't rule out a return.'
Bendtner has not scored in his seven appearances in a Juve shirt, and it's unlikely the Italian champions will move to sign the Danish international on a permanent basis at the end of the season.

West Ham Boss Wants To Sign Former Chelsea Striker Anelka

Posted by TR On 08:00

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has said he is keen on re-signing Shanghai Shenhua striker Nicolas Anelka.
Allardyce, 58, bought the player for Bolton for a then-club record fee in 2006 and could move to work with the 33-year-old again in January.
“It could interest me, of course it could,” he said. “It would be of interest if that is a possibility financially and he wanted to come.
“I have had no conversations with Nicolas’s agent at this time.”
“He had a girlfriend, who is now his wife, and his family and I think that has matured him – I think Nicolas has still got his family here in London, I don’t think they moved out to China,” Allardyce said.
“He never was like that in his entire time I had him,” he replied. “He was disappointed I left, when he came and played for me I had him at a very, very good time – probably at the height of his career, I would think, because he had matured into a dedicated professional.
“I think he has always been dedicated but he got sidetracked by certain situations through his younger days but he learnt from that, his experience across Europe.”

Manchester United plot to raid BVB for £50m

Posted by TR On 07:56

Borussia Dortmund defender Hummels and Bayer Leverkusen attacker Bender are both valued at around £25million, and the Premier League giants are ready to sanction a £50million investment on the pair of 23-year-olds.

Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson sent chief scout Martin Ferguson to watch the pair in action for Germany in their goalless international friendly draw with Holland on Wednesday, and after receiving another glowing report is ready to step up his interest in both players in January.
Hummels signed a new five-year deal with Dortmund in the summer, but insisted on certain get-out clauses, and harbours an ambition to play in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Bender penned a two-year extension in March to keep him at Leverkusen until 2017, but that is unlikely to prevent Manchester United  from attempting to lure either player to Old Trafford.
"To play in a new country would be flattering," admitted Hummels. "I've had offers before from abroad and I have to admit that one of them was very interesting. But the timing was not right for me.
"When you are at a club like Dortmund you just don't move to any club and there are only four clubs in Europe I would consider."

Suarez exit rumors, Link with City and Madrid

Posted by TR On 22:20

As the transfer market is nearing, with just five weeks to go, many players are linked with many other clubs. the most recent is Liverpool Star Striker Luis Suarez. Many websites have reported that Suarez is a target for Manchester City. City boss Machini have instructed to offload trouble star Mario Balotelli and bring in Suarez. It is also reported that City will prepare a bid for around £50 million. Roberto Mancini has grown weary of errant forward Mario Balotelli and wants to offload the Italian to make room for the hottest striker in the Barclays Premier League.
Suarez has carried Liverpool this season, scoring 11 goals, but his form has not gone unnoticed and Mancini would like to recruit the Uruguay international. Prising Suarez away from Anfeild  however, would come at a huge cost - £50 million would be a realistic valuation - and negotiations would be complex.Liverpool's stance about the 25-year-old has not changed from the summer when they saw off interest in him from Paris St Germain and Juventus. Back then Liverpool gave Suarez a significant improvement on his contract, extending it to 2017 and giving him terms on a par with the club's top earners.

Also Suarez is also linked to Atletico Madrid as a replacement for Falcao in case the Colombian striker moves to another team during January transfer.

THE POSSIBILITY :

Machini retains a long-term interest in Fiorentina attackerStevan Jovetic, Napoli's Edinson Cavani and Atletico Madrid hitman Radamel Falcao. With Chelsea in pole position to sign Atleti's prolific Colombian and the player himself apparently favouring a move to Stamford Bridge, Jovetic and Cavani remain more realistic options for City.Fiorentina have told star man Jovetic that he will be allowed to leave this summer, while Napoli are thought to be willing to listen to serious offers for Cavani. Both could be available for as little as £25m (€31m).
So Suarez is not their main target.
As Rodgers has stated in no uncertain terms, as far as he is concerned, Suarez is not for sale. He is their talisman and signed a new long-term deal with the club only this summer.Furthermore, if the Reds miss out on European football altogether this season, circumstances may change – but only if Suarez himself forces their hand.

There are few clubs in the world who would not like to have one of their players bandied around with a price-tag of £40m (€50m) or £50m (€62m) attached but, at present, Liverpool see no deal worth doing.

Moreover Suarez has committed his future at Anfeild. During his recent interview with his club website he said "I have a very long contract here and it's a dream come true to be playing at a club like Liverpool because, as I've said, as a boy I dreamt of playing for a team like this. Now I'm here, it's all about enjoying myself and trying to be here for as many years as I can, because I'm at a club where I'm very happy, my family is happy, I've got fantastic teammates and a manager from whom I'm learning so much.
"As a player, it's vital to have the backing of your manager and so I think that the confidence Brendan is showing in myself and the team as a whole is very important and it's down to us to repay that trust out there on the pitch."

Guardiola leave because of the Players: Dani Alves

Posted by TR On 22:01

Dani Alves thinks Pep Guardiola left Barcelona because the players "were no longer responding to him as he desired".
"Pep said that he would only leave when we were no longer responding to him," Alves said in an interview with Le Buteur.

"We did not respond to him on the field as he would have liked and this is why the players feel responsible for his departure."

The Brazil international also spoke of his highly-rated compatriot Neymar and spoke of the differences between him and Blaugrana team-mate Lionel Messi.

"The difference between Messi and Neymar is that Messi plays in Europe, while Neymar is still in Brazil," he continued.

"Even without tactical discpline, what is important for a team is having players with maturity and a sense of responsibility.

"To further his career, Neymar must come to Europe and preferably to Barcelona."

Santi Cazorla, Juan Mata and Michu teamed up to save their former club.

Posted by TR On 06:08

Santi Cazorla, Juan Mata and Michu have teamed up in an effort to save their former club Real Oviedo from going out of business. The Asturias side, who play in the Spanish third tier, are in a desperate financial state and it is understood they could go out of business within a fortnight if they don’t raise €2 million.
But Arsenal’s Cazorla, Mata of Chelsea and Swansea revelation Michu have bought shares in the club where they each started their careers in an effort to keep them afloat
Michu, who played at Oviedo from the age of five until he was 21, said: 'Myself, Mata and Cazorla have all bought shares, but it would be wrong of me to say how much. We just wanted to try and help save the club we all played for.
'The economy in Spain is very bad and the club needs around €2m to survive. A lot of people have bought shares and hopefully it will be enough by the closing date of November 17. It’s my local club, a club I love, so I hope it will be enough.’

Michu hopes his hometown club can experience a similar revival to that of Swansea, which almost went out of business 10 years ago.
He added: ‘Swansea fans should know how much it means to me and the Oviedo supporters.
'I remember reading up on the history of Swansea when I first arrived here; I remember reading how the Swansea supporters bought shares in this club when it was in trouble 10 years ago - and again many years before that.
'And look at the club now; in the Premier League and winning at places like Anfield. Hopefully this SOS can have a similar reaction.'

Manchester United make Kenyan enforcer their primary target

Posted by TR On 20:54

Manchester United are set to make Celtic’s combative central midfielder Victor Wanyama their primary transfer target, reports SunSport.
The 21-year-old Kenyan international has turned many heads since his move to Parkhead with his wonderful destructive play, getting amongst opponents and breaking up attacks, coupled with a real ability on the ball; Wanyama is much more than a bruiser, he also has an excellent passing range.
This, coupled with his ability to fill in at centre-back and to find the back of the net (the midfielder has struck 8 goals in 38 games for the Scottish club) led many to notice his talent from a young age; he made his debut for Kenya in 2007 aged just 15.
It would appear that said talent is now receiving serious attention in Europe following his move to Celtic for £900,000. His versatility made him a target for Arsenal following the departure of Alex Song, and Liverpool are reportedly interested, but it appears that it will be Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson who moves first for Wanyama in the January transfer window.
However, whilst the signing would be a good one for United as they are reportedly in the market for a more destructive midfielder, it is unlikely to happen in January; Ferguson is reportedly willing to offer £12m, but Celtic manager Neil Lennon values him at £25m, and has previously stated that he is unwilling to sell the Kenyan.
With this being Lennon’s mentality and Wanyama under contract until 2015, Celtic are under no pressure to sell and as such probably won’t – unless United really break the bank.

Milan reveal 'profound love' for City star

Mario Balotelli could end up with another row with Roberto Mancini if he decides he wants to be at home in Italy when his baby is born at Christmas.

Balotelli’s girlfriend Raffaella Fico is due to give birth on Christmas Day and  Super Mario is pictured on Monday wearing boots embroiderd with ‘Super M Angel’.He would miss a number of games if he decides to be by her side for a prolonged period.
Meanwhile, AC Milan have subtly reopened their pursuit of Balotelli after the striker's latest public spat with Mancini.
The Italian was hauled off after 70 uninspiring minutes of the champions' snore draw with West Ham on Saturday, and was noticeably frustrated as he stormed back to his seat, mouthing his angry feelings towards the manager.
Mancini pulled no punches after the match, hitting out at his £25million man.
The Italian said: 'I think that a player like Balotelli, when he has a chance like to today, he should score.
'Because when you are a top player, if you have a chance, you should score this - but I don't think he didn't want to score.'
On the player's reaction to being substituted, Mancini added: 'It's normal. A player is never happy to leave the pitch, but if Mario had scored he'd have stayed on the pitch.
'I'm the manager, I decide. I cannot play with four strikers.
'He should be disappointed with the chance he missed, not leaving the pitch in the last 25 minutes. It was a bad chance he missed.'
Balotelli moved to the Premier League from Inter in 2010 and has made several trips back to Milan, most recently to watch the city's big football derby.
Despite his connections to Inter, Balotelli left the club under a cloud and would have little concern joining their fierce rivals.
And it seems AC Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani is warming to the idea despite admitting it would be difficult.

I'd vote for myself to win the Ballon d'Or, declares Ronaldo

Posted by TR On 20:25

Cristiano Ronaldo has lived up to his reputation of self-absorption by declaring if he could vote for himself to win the Ballon d'Or, he would.
The Real Madrid superstar is second favourite behind Barcelona rival Lionel Messi to pick up the prestigious FIFA award which crowns one player the world's best, on January 7.
'If I could, I'd vote for myself,' he told France Football.

'I am what I am and I'm happy with that. Being too humble isn't good. In Portugal we say that too much humility is vanity.'
'I play for the passion of football, and for the love of the teams I represent. If I was playing for money, I'd be at another club,' he said.
'All players love it when teams like Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United or Chelsea dream about them, but that's not in my thoughts.'

On November 2 Messi said he would not be voting for Ronaldo to win the award.
'Last year, I voted for Xavi, Iniesta and Aguero, in that order,' he told Catalan daily Sport
'I reckon this year it will be the same. I have not thought about it yet, but it will be more or less the same.'
Messi added: 'Xavi and Iniesta will be there for sure and I am thinking between [Gonzalo] Higuain, [Angel] Di Maria or Aguero.'
Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has offered his support to Ronaldo by backing the player to the hilt.

'If Messi is the best on the planet, Ronaldo is the best in the universe,' the enigmatic coach declared.

The Argentine maestro has already pipped Ronaldo to one award - picking up the European Golden Shoe for the 2011-12 campaign.
He hit an astonishing 63 goals, beating the competition's previous record of 47 from Dudu Georgescu in 1976-77.
Ronaldo trailed Messi with a none-the-less remarkable 57 goals.

Beckham Praise for Suarez

Posted by TR On 20:12

Star Player David Beckham has praised Liverpool star striker Luis Suarez for his recent goal against Newcastle United last Sunday.Suarez is enemy No.1 for Manchester United fans following his suspension for racially abusing Patrice Evra, and the poor sportsmanship that followed it the next time the two clubs met. There is no doubting, however, that Suarez is one of the most talented forwards in the Premier League - as the Liverpool star demonstrated with a fine goal against Newcastle at Anfield on Sunday.
It was a strike that impressed Beckham, now of LA Galaxy, who was willing to put his feelings asManchester United supporter to one side to hail the class of Suarez.
"The goal against Newcastle was exceptional," Beckham said, as reported by talkSPORT.
"The way he brought the ball down, everything about it was amazing. I’m a Manchester United fan and I don’t like to say that about Liverpool players!
"His first touch was incredible, his second was even better. He’s a great player and he’s capable of doing those things week in, week out."

BARCELONA WELCOME BACK NEW DAD MESSI

Posted by TR On 12:38

Lionel Messi should take his place in Barcelona's starting XI for the visit of Celta Vigo on Saturday after the birth of his first child.
La Liga’s leading scorer was absent from Friday’s training session after accompanying his pregnant girlfriend Antonella Racuzzo to a hospital in central Barcelona for the birth of his first child, a boy called Thiago.
"Leo Messi is a father," Barca confirmed in a statement. "This Friday afternoon Antonella Rocuzzo, the Argentine star's girlfriend, gave birth to Thiago Messi, the couple's first son."
Messi, 25, added on his Facebook page: "Today I am the happiest man in the world, my son has been born. I thank God for this gift. Thanks to my family for the support. A hug for everyone."
Earlier Barca coach Tito Vilanova said he was happy to leave the decision over whether Messi takes to the field to the player himself, saying: “It’s personal for him but in principle he is ready for the game. It doesn’t matter that he’s missed one day of training.”
Vilanova is looking forward to welcoming Celta, where he spent three years as a player in the mid-nineties. “I have good memories of my time there. Everyone treated me very well and my daughter was born there.
“They are a team that plays from the back and enjoys lots of possession. Celta play good football and we’ll need to play well to win. But we enjoy playing against more expansive teams – it’s better for the spectators.”
Vilanova will again be without injured central defensive pairing Gerard Pique and Carles Puyol, although he did reveal that Pique has stepped up his recovery and should return to full training “in the next few days.”
Barca will be hoping for three points to keep themselves ahead of joint-leaders Atletico Madrid, who face a tough trip to Valencia as they aim to maintain the pace with Vilanova’s side.
Atletico coach Diego Simeone is unconcerned that his team’s spectacular start to the season has attracted so little public recognition, and was instead happy to pile the praise on his compatriot Messi. “Messi is unsurpassable in today’s game. He’s marvellous – like a PlayStation character.”
Across the capital, Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is facing a mounting injury crisis as his fourth-placed side prepare for the visit of Real Zaragoza.
With three full backs already missing – Alvaro Arbeloa, Marcelo and Fabio Coentrao – Mourinho now faces further selection headaches with the absence of his two holding central midfielders, Sami Khedira and Xabi Alonso.
“The only one who could return is Arbeloa. Of course I would prefer to have all my players available, but we have a squad to respond to situations like this.”
Mourinho is urging his players to focus fully on Saturday’s game rather than allowing their thoughts to stray to Tuesday’s Champions’ League clash with Dortmund, which has taken on added importance following the German side’s victory against Madrid in the last round of fixtures.
“We have to forget about Tuesday’s game and keep our concentration. Zaragoza keep on picking up points and have a calm approach.”
And he further fuelled the debate surrounding his public criticism of reserve team coach Alberto Toril by saying: “Toril and I both have our autonomy but the club is bigger than any individual.”

Rodgers plays down Walcott move

Posted by TR On 12:08

Brendan Rodgers has been told he has money to spend in January, but admits he faces a struggle to improve his Liverpool squad after playing down talk of a move for Theo Walcott.

Arsenal forward Walcott, who is out of contract at the end of the season, is being linked with a move to Anfield again, after Liverpool were reportedly interested in signing him last summer.
Rodgers has dismissed the Walcott link as "speculation", despite the fact that needs to strengthen his forward line. With Fabio Borini injured and Andy Carroll on a season's loan at West Ham, Luis Suarez is Liverpool's only fit senior striker.
Rodgers will have money made available by owners Fenway Sports Group to strengthen the squad, but reckons that the mid-season transfer window offers little genuine opportunity for squad improvement.
Asked about Walcott, Rodgers said: "There's nothing to say on it. He's an Arsenal player. It's all speculation on many players at the moment. My concentration is purely on the squad that we have."
The manager, though, has acknowledged the need to strengthen in January, however difficult that may be.
He added: "We'll have funds. I'm having talks with the owners at the moment, along with our recruitment team. We know we need to reinforce the group, so that's something that's ongoing.
"The priority is getting players in the building. Our squad is very small, and very thin on the ground. The players have performed admirably up until now. They've been terrific in their mentality considering the number of games they've been playing.
"But at the moment, it's really about reinforcing the group rather than looking too much at people going the other way. January's always a difficult one. You don't get too many top, top players. Clubs will be unwilling to move on players. But we have to scour the world and country to get the types of players who are going to be available and correct for our model of play.
"Obviously, we're limited as to what we can bring in, both in terms of availability of players and financially. But there's no doubt we need to do that. So our scouting team are working very hard to identify those talents who might be available, and there's no doubt we need that support in January, and I'm very confident we'll be able to do that."

Agents Confirms Liverpool Interest for Holtby

Lewis Holtby Has Decision to Make – Agent Confirms Offers for Liverpool Target...

Schalke midfielder Lewis Holtby has offers on the table from clubs in England and Spain, his agent has claimed, but poured cold water on speculation of a bid from Serie A giants Inter.

The 22-year-old’s contract in Gelsenkirchen expires at the end of the current campaign and he has been linked with English outfit Liverpool, despite being a boyhood Everton supporter, while the Nerazzurri have also been speculated as admirers of his abilities.
Interest in Holtby stretches further than that though, his representative Markus Noack insists, with firm proposals on the table from not just England, but Spain too.

Talks on an extended contract at Schalke are progressing well, Noack added, but feels the young midfielder now has a decision to make, given the proposals which have landed in his lap.

"We are talking with Schalke about a three-year contract", Noack told Calcio Mercato.

"The talks are going well, but there are also offers that we have received from England and Spain.
"A club from England has made an especially interesting offer.

"My client will have to decide whether he will stay at Schalke, or wants to have an adventure abroad.

"La Liga and the Premier League are preferable."

Asked directly about mooted interest in Holtby from Inter, Noack replied: "I don’t know anything about it."

The 22-year-old operates as an attacking midfielder and is left-footed.

He has been in impressive form for Schalke so far this season, scoring three goals and creating another three in nine Bundesliga matches, as the Ruhr giants have emerged as the most likely challengers to Bayern Munich for the German title.

At international level, Holtby was last in action for Germany’s Under-21s against Switzerland in October.

Leicester have taken India Under-19 international Brandon Fernandes on trial.

Fernandes, who earlier this month had a trial at Barclays Premier League club Reading, will spend two weeks with Leicester's development squad.
The teenage midfielder currently plays in South Africa for ASD Cape Town.
He first caught the eye of English scouts when he impressed during a Manchester United Soccer Skills tournament in 2008.

Doni set to return to Liverpool

Posted by TR On 06:16

Liverpool goalkeeper Alexander Doni is set to return to the club in the next fortnight, having been absent since the club's pre-season tour with 'personal issues'. The Liverpool Echo reports that the goalkeeper is set to arrive back at Melwood, having spent the last couple of months in Brazil. The former Roma keeper will challenge Spain's Jose Reina and current understudy Brad Jones for a place in the first-team, having fallen behind the Australian in his absence. Doni joined Liverpool from Roma in July 2011, making just four appearances in his debut season in the Premier League, with opportunities limited behind clear first-choice Reina. The former Cruzeiro goalkeeper has played 10 times for his country and is rated highly in his homeland, with stories of a possible return having emerged regularly during his stay at Anfield. The exact cause of his extended absence has not been revealed by any of the parties involved.

A look at Iker Casillas' Best Numbers

Posted by TR On 10:11

While Victor Valdes and Pepe Reina have faltered in the current campaign, Casillas stands strong for Spain and continues to break record after record for La Roja. Last Friday, as Vicente del Bosque's men beat Belarus 4-0, the Real Madrid glovesman smashed his own mark for minutes without conceding in a Spain shirt, now 727.It was just another record for the young man from Mostoles, though, and at 31, Iker is set to go on making history for many years to come - with both club and country.

Takes a look at his best numbers in an incredible 13-year career.

1 - Despite his superb form in La Liga, Casillas has claimed just one Zamora prize - awarded to the goalkeeper who has conceded the least goals at the end of the season - in 2007-08. He also won the Golden Glove at World Cup 2010, an honour bestowed upon the tournament's best shot stopper.

2 - Casillas has won two prestigious Principe de Asturias awards, having claimed this year's prize along with Barcelona and Spain team-mate Xavi, and the 2010 title in unison with his successful Spain colleagues after glory in South Africa.

3 - Casillas has captained Spain to three out of their four major international tournament wins (Euro 2008, World Cup 2010 and Euro 2012). La Roja's other success was a European Championship in 1964.

6 - He has made six penalty saves in major competitions for Spain - two in the shootout success against Ireland at the 2002 World Cup, two to deny Italy in the quarter-finals of Euro 2008, one versus Paraguay in 2010 and another against Portugal at Euro 2012.

9 - Friday's clean sheet against Belarus saw Casillas draw level with former Spain team-mate Santiago Canizares for the most games without conceding a goal for La Roja's senior side. Another shut-out against France on Tuesday, therefore, will see him set yet another new mark.

14 - His trophies with Real Madrid read five Liga titles, two Champions League crowns, four Supercopas, one Copa del Rey, one Intercontinental Cup and one Uefa Super Cup - more than any of his current team-mates.

82 - Casillas holds the record for the most clean sheets at international level, with 82, now 10 clear of Edwin van der Sar, the previous highest.
104 - During Euro 2012, Casillas became the first player ever to win 100 matches at international level. He is now on 104 victories with La Roja.

141 - Despite being just 31, Casillas has been capped 141 times for Spain since making his debut in 2000.

509 - After going behind to Italy in the first match of Euro 2012, the keeper went 509 minutes without conceding in the continental competition to set a new European Championship record. Italy great Dino Zoff had held the previous mark with 494 minutes.

636 - Casillas is fourth in the list of all-time appearances at Real Madrid, closing in on Santillana in third (645) and not too far behind former colleague Manolo Sanchis (in second with 711), and Raul (first on 741).

727 - He has gone 727 minutes without conceding a goal for Spain, beating his own previous mark of 708, which he set with his national side in 2008. In competitive matches, the total is 689 minutes.
